America’s best art fair, Art Basel Miami opened yesterday. Earliest viewing for the fair started at noon and this year a polite crowd made their way without any jostling at all. Gone are the manic collectors dashing off for their favorite stands. more

While the show is small, the effort is big. No one can fault Ambra & Co. for not investing to maintain the importance of the fair with only 14 exhibitors. All but 4 of the dealers and all the programming is about contemporary design. Of the vintage dealers, R 20th Century stands out with a powerful presentation of their Brazilian material. more

Wright’s upcoming December 8th Important Design auction preview is now online. This highly-vetted sale features masterworks of the 20th century. Highlights include a Douglas BTD Destroyer wind tunnel model plane, a Tatra T87 automobile, a Mercedes 230SL pagoda and an Aston Martin DB6 sports car. Additionally, the sale will feature 81 Mylar prints documenting the construction of the World Trade Center North Tower and a selection of drawings and photographs from the Philip Johnson archive.
